I painted Feels Like Spring on the island of Cyprus. It started as a black and white sketch of abstract shapes that I found in my sketchbook in February 2023. I picked up the paintbrush and painted the shapes in colour on a larger readymade canvas.
Spring was around the corner and the swallows had started arriving. Swoops and arcs in the painting express those moments.
Several areas of impasto add texture to this abstract of spring air. The blue and yellow contrasts emphasise the sense of movement in the painting.
