Jazz Singer I

Loosely based on different photographs of American Jazz singer Johnny Hartman, I painted the portrait in acrylics on acrylic paper. 

The background is soft and diffused in a pastel orange contrasted with grey blue to better capture the reverie he is in while singing. Diagonals in the background compliment the tilt of his head. 

This is the moment before he takes a breath to sing. When he is listening to the band and tuning into their energy and sound.
