Capturing a moment in time

I painted this portrait of my sister in oils on raw canvas I stretched myself and underpainted in blue. This was to contrast with the glowing peaches and yellows in her skin tone and a diffused light from a summer's day.

The piece took around six months as I waited for each layer to dry.

I used different brush sizes from large for the blocks of colour in the background to tiny for the small details of the face.

As in many of my paintings I focused on colour and value contrasts for a vibrant effect.
